What is the bandwidth limitation of an oscilloscope?

Bandwidth limiting is typically a deliberate technique that restricts a high‑bandwidth oscilloscope to a lower bandwidth in order to filter out high‑frequency signals. By applying bandwidth limitation, we can reduce the noise that sometimes appears on the displayed waveform, yielding a cleaner signal. Additionally, while suppressing noise, bandwidth limiting also attenuates or eliminates high‑frequency components. Common settings include full bandwidth, 20 MHz, and, on some instruments, high‑pass and low‑pass filtering.
