How do you use an oscilloscope to measure differential signals?
The best approach is to use a differential probe, as this yields the most accurate and objective measurement. If a differential probe is unavailable, you can connect two single-ended probes to the oscilloscope’s two channels (e.g., Ch1 and Ch2) and then perform a mathematical subtraction—displaying the waveform of Ch1 minus Ch2—for analysis. In this case, ensure that both probes are identical and that the vertical scale settings on the oscilloscope’s two channels are the same; otherwise, the measurement error will be significant.
